6. O
you who believe! If an evil-liver bring you tidings, verify it, lest you
smite some folk in ignorance and afterward repent of what you did. 7a. And
know that the messenger of Allah is among you. |
One more important matter has been described in this verse. It happened that the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) sent Walid bin Utbah to the people of the tribe Banii Mustalaq, who embraced Islam during near past, for knowing their circumstances and for collecting the poor-due from them. There was old enmity among the tribes of Walid bin Utbah and Banii Mustalaq before Islam. When Walid reached near them, many of the people of Banii Mustalaq advanced to receive him with gladness. Walid thought that they were coming with the intention to kill him. He ran back to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and said: The people of Banii Mustalaq have become renegades. The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) got ready to punish them. Meanwhile, their some people came and requested: We came out for his reception, not with any bad intention. The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) sent Khalid bin Walid (May Allaah be pleased with him) secretly for investigation. He said when he returned: Those people are firm on Islam. I have received the poor-due from them.
After that this verse was revealed. It is commanded: O Believers! Don’t trust in everyone’s talk. Inquire at first before putting your trust if someone reports, who himself is careless from Islamic Law, lest you attack upon any folk in haste; having faith in one’s report, and it comes in your knowledge afterwards that you have done wrong, and then you have to regret.
By advising this, Holy Qur’an finished
many mutual disputes, because base of the most of them is usually on false
rumors. It is commanded: You must bear in mind that among you is the Messenger
of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).
