Islam and Belief

Islam and Belief (L-3092)

14.  Qaalatil-‘A’-raabu  ‘aamannaa.  Qul-lam  tu'-minuu  wa  laakin- quuluuu  ‘aslamnaa  wa  lammaa  yadkhulil-  ‘Iimaanu  fii  quluubikum.  Wa  ‘in  tutii-'Ullaaha  wa  Rasuulahuu  laa  yalit-kum-min  ‘a'-maalikum  shay-'aa.  ‘InnAllaaha  Gafoorur-Rahiim.

14. The wandering Arabs say: We believe. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): You believe not, but rather say "We submit," for the faith has not yet entered into your hearts. Yet, if you obey Allah and His messenger, He will not withhold from you aught of (the reward of) your deeds. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Difference between Islam and Belief has been manifested in this verse. The person who read Kalimah (There is no worthy of worship but God, Muhammad is Messenger of God), entered Islam. Now he is a member of Islamic Society and can say that he is a Muslim. He should live together with the Muslims like them because he got all rights of Muslim-hood. But still he is not a believer.

After understanding the meanings of Kalimah when its Signs will begin to appear from his habits and behaviour, then it will be considered that he is a believer. The man, who is proud, arrogant and quarrelsome, seeks faults of others and molests them, in short who commits such works which are prohibited according to this verse, is also immature in Belief.

The same has been commanded in the above mentioned verse that the Bedouins say, "We have believed." Say to them, "You have not yet believed; but say instead, `We have embraced Islam,` because Belief has not entered your hearts so far. However, if you obey Allaah and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) with true heart, then the Light of Belief will begin to appear in your hearts. Then your deeds will be valued by Allaah Almighty and He will give you full reward. He will not deprive you of your deeds. Your sins will be forgiven if you will obey the Commands of Allaah and follow the Sayings of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Indeed, Allaah is Forgiving and Merciful.
