See the goddesses (L-3137)

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ 19  وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ 20  أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ 21  تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ 22  إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ 23a

19.  ‘Afara-'ay-tumul-Laata  wal-'Uzzaa. 20.  Wa  Manaatas-saalisatal-‘ukhraa. 21.  ‘Alakumuz-zakaru  wa  lahul-‘unsaa. 22.  Tilka  ‘izan-  qismatun- ziizaa. 23a.  ‘In  hiya  ‘illaaa  ‘asmaaa-'un-  sammay-tumuuhaaa  ‘antum  wa  ‘aabaaa-'ukum- maaa  ‘anzalAllaahu  bihaa  min-  sultaan.  ‘Iny-yattabi-'uuna  ‘illaz-zanna  wa  maa  tahwal-‘anfus.

19. Have you thought upon Al-Laat and Al-'Uzzaa 20. And Manaat, the third, the other? 21. Are yours the males and His the females? 22. That indeed were an unfair division! 23a. They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire.

The Dignity of Allaah Almighty and His magnificent Signs in the heavens and in the earth were seen by His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and he had perfect belief in Him. Now there is mention of such goddesses, which were adored by the idolaters of Arab.

It is commanded: Behold the idols which these people adore and say that these are (Let us flee to God) daughters of Allaah – for example, al-Laat, al-`Uzzaa and Manaat were their goddesses. (The people of Taif used to adore al-Laat, whereas al-`Uzzaa was adored of Qureish and Kanaanah etc. and the tribes of Aws and Khizraj, who belonged to Madinah, used to adore Manaat. These entire were female idols. Al-Laat and al-Uzzaa from them were more famous because those were near Makkah, and the Manaat was idol of those who were dwellers of far territory, so it was third in rank). How can these lifeless stones be able to be worshipped? It is astonishing that these people like sons for themselves and say that children of Allaah Almighty are daughters. This is unjust division and transgression. Impossible is to be children of Allaah Almighty who are considered by them His daughters (God forbid). The Truth is it that these are only some names, nothing else, which these people and their forefathers have invented themselves. Allaah Almighty has never informed them and nor there is any such proof which He would have revealed in this connection. These are only their imaginary thoughts and unreasonable desires which have been appearing in this form.
