Introduction of Chapter 61 (L-3249)
Chapter “SAFF” - (THE RANKS) - 61
It is sixty-first Chapter of Holy Qur’an according to order. It has two Sections, and probably it was revealed in sixth AH near the Peace Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. The works, which are liked by Allaah Almighty, have been described in this Chapter. Once upon a time, some Muslims were gathering at a place and conversing concerning their betterment. The matter reached the point: If we had known that which works were liked by Allaah Almighty, we would have chosen those works to do wholeheartedly. At such occasion these verses were sent down.
It was commanded: Behold! We describe you the works which Allaah Almighty likes. But We warn you also that He does not like talking only with tongues, boasting and showing back at the time of necessity to work. You must show practically done whatever you say by your tongues. Allaah Almighty is displeased from it that a man says by tongue, “I shall do this and that”, but he does not do as he says.
Listen! Allaah Almighty likes it that you must stay before the people, who are His enemies, at the time of war; as you are a wall strengthened with lead, which is without any hole or defect.
It was the habit of the folk of Moses (peace be upon him) that they used to claim by their tongues that they were able to do great works (for showing others that they were very brave and could defeat the enemy), but at the time of war against the enemies, they used to return from the battle field. Sometimes in battle, they used to give reply to Moses (peace be upon him): We can’t do this work. It is your and your Lord’s work. The same was said by the folk of Jesus (peace be upon him) too. When he said: Behold! I am a Messenger of Allaah. I say true to those Messengers (peace be upon them) who came before me. I convey Good News that a Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) will come after me.
They used to boast, “When the Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) will come, we shall support him and destroy the rebel people. But when he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) came, they evaded by saying, “it is a play of magic” and denied him clearly.
O Muslims! All such people are wrongdoers. You must never try to equal them. Your religion is true, and your Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is true. Behold! If you will correct your faith and works according to his Instructions, you will overcome in the world and will be successful in the Hereafter (the life after death). Allaah Almighty will bestow rewards to you on the Day of Resurrection.
O Muslims! Help the Religion of Allaah Almighty and
spread it suitably, as the companions of Jesus (peace be upon him) tried their
best to spread their religion. Allaah Almighty helps such people.
