11. But
when they spy some merchandise or pastime they break away to it and leave you
standing. Say: That which Allah has is better than pastime and than
merchandise, and Allah is the Best of providers. |
It
was described previously: When the call is heard for the Prayer of the Day of
Congregation (Friday), you must give up your all works, make haste for
gathering to hear the Sermon and offering Congregational Prayer. The scholars
have told that the aim from this Azaan is a Call, standing before the
Spiritual Guide and then the Sermon is started by him, because when this verse
was sent down; at that time there was only one Azaan. After that; during
the times of Uthman’s Caliphate (May Allaah be pleased with him),
one extra Azaan had begun after the consensus of all that one Azaan
must be given before the Azaan of Sermon (Khutbah). Now it is
compulsory that the trade is entirely forbidden after the Azaan of
Sermon. However there is a difference in opinion concerning unlawfulness of
trade after the first Azaan. It is better if you leave your trades and
be present for the prayer after the first Azaan.
In
this verse, it is commanded: You must leave all worldly works with effect from
the Sermon after Azaan to the end of the Prayer. Once in the beginning,
a Caravan reached Madinah along with the grain when the Messenger
(grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) was delivering a Sermon, and
there was shortage of the grain during those days, some people stood up from
the assembly and ran towards the Caravan for looking the show and getting the
grain. They would have thought that after acquiring grain they would
participate in the prayer. This verse has prevented from such behavior.
It
is commanded: Those who rushed to see the spectacle and for trading; instead of
listening to your Sermon, they went wrong. Say to them: Provision is in the
Hand of Allaah Almighty. Thinking to leave the Sermon that lest the
grain is over and they may be deprived of purchase the grain for their food, is
not suitable. Allaah Almighty has more good things than these, which are
only for those who obey His Commands wholeheartedly.
It
has been taught in this Chapter: Reap advantage from the teachings of Holy Qur’an
and follow the Sayings of the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) lest you give up your Religion like the
Jews and there remain nothing except the verbal name of Islam. If it happened,
you would be deprived of goodness and blessings of this world and the
hereafter.
