1. O
Prophet! When you (men) put away women, put them away for their (legal)
period and reckon the period, and keep your duty to Allah, your Lord. Expel
them not from their houses nor let them go forth unless they commit open
immorality. Such are the limits (imposed by) Allah; and whoso transgresses
Allah's limits, he verily wrongs his soul. You know not: it may be that Allah
will afterward bring some new thing to pass. |
After permission of divorcing the woman according to Religious Law, the people began to put the women away thoughtlessly as and when they wished. It became reason that the women were hurt and sometimes the husband himself had to regret. Therefore in this Chapter, the same matter has been explained. It turned out that one should divorce his wife when he considers dire need and he feels that there is no other way of salvation.
It is commanded: When you divorce
women, divorce them for the commencement of their waiting period and keep count
of the waiting period. Although the divorce will immediately be commenced as
and when you will divorce, but Allaah Almighty does not desire to put
anyone of you in trouble. Therefore you must divorce during those days when you
can meet your wife for sexual intercourse but you do not commit, so that their
waiting period may be counted without increase or decrease of the days. Every
work must be done; fearing Allaah Almighty. (Continued)
