Why are you so much stubborn? (L-3314)

مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ 36  أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ 37  إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ 38  أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ 39  سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ 40أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ 41

36.  Maa  lakum.  Kayfa  Tahkumuun. 37.  ‘Am  lakum  kitaabun  fiihi  tad-rusuun. 38.  ‘Inna  lakum  fiihi  lamaa  takhayyaruun. 39.  ‘Am  lakum  ‘Aymaanun 'alaynaa  baaligatun  ‘ilaa  Yawmil-Qiyaamati  ‘inna  lakum  lamaa  tah-kumuun. 40.  Sal-hum  ‘ayyuhum  bi-zaalika  za-'iim. 41.  ‘Am  lahum  shurakaaa-'u  fal-ya'-tuu  bi-shurakaaa-'ihim  ‘in  kaanuu  saadiqiin.

36. What ails you? How foolishly you judge! 37. Or have you a scripture wherein you learn 38. That you shall indeed have all that you choose? 39. Or have you a covenant on oath from Us that reaches to the Day of Judgment, that yours shall be all that you ordain? 40. Ask them (O Muhammad) which of them will vouch for that! 41. Or have they other gods? Then let them bring their other gods if they are truthful

The disbelievers of Makkah used to consider themselves most superior to others. They used to disregard all other human beings and say: If the Muslims claim that they will have great ranks with Allaah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection, then we also shall have ranks senior to them because while we have in the world; ranks greater than them; then why shall we not get in the next life better than them? They are being caused to understand: Best reward and higher ranks will be given to them on the Day of Resurrection who believed in Allaah Almighty and got ready to obey His Commands in this world as they had to believe and obey.

How did those people consider that they would get higher ranks also in the Hereafter who did not believe in the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), but rejected the Commands of Allaah Almighty which he conveyed to them? Do they think that Allaah Almighty is such unjust (Let us flee to God) that He will treat the disbelievers equal of the believers, but as they think that their ranks will be higher than them? What has happened with them who make such astonishing decisions themselves? Do they have any Book sent by Allaah Almighty, in which they have recited that their every desire will be fulfilled? Ask them! Who from you takes responsibility of proving it that with Allaah Almighty; believers and disbelievers are equal? Do you have oaths binding upon Allaah Almighty concerning extending until the Day of Resurrection that indeed for you is whatever you choose? They have associated partners with Allaah Almighty. If they are true then they should bring their partners in front, so that it may be judged that how much power those have.
