Expression of grief and regret (L-3313)

قَالُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَٰغِينَ 31  عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ 32  كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ 33 (ع) إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ 34  أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ 35

31.  Qaaluu  yaa-waylanaaa  ‘innaa  kunnaa  taagiin. 32.  'Asaa  Rabbunaaa  ‘any- yubdilanaa  khayram-minhaaa  ‘innaaa  ‘ilaa  Rabbinaa  raagibuun. 33.  Kazaalikal-‘Azaab.  Wa  la-'Azaabul-‘Aakhirati  ‘akbar.  Law  kaanuu  ya'-lamuun. (Section 1/3) 34.  ‘Inna  lil-Muttaqiina  'inda  Rabbihim  Jannaatin- Na-'iim. 35.  ‘Afa-Naj-'alul-Muslimiina  kal-mujrimiin.

31. They said: Alas for us! In truth we were outrageous. 32. It may be that our Lord will give us better than this in place thereof. Lo! We beseech our Lord. 33. Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know. 34. Lo! For those who keep from evil are gardens of bliss with their Lord. 35. Shall We then treat those who have surrendered as We treat the guilty?

After quarreling with one another, they said among themselves, “Alas! We were at wrong. We rebelled from the Commands of Allaah Almighty and did not separate the right of the feeble people. We became greedy, got ready for stinginess and considered that we possess everything. None can harm us. We forgot our Lord and indulged in temporary worldly things. At last we have been punished very severely and now we are empty-handed. However we incline to our Most Merciful Lord and are hopeful that He will give us any other garden in exchange of that which has been burnt.

After that it is commanded: The mankind should learn from it that fulfilling own desires being fearless from the wrath of Allaah Almighty is very bad. One must incline towards Him every time. Being involved in apparent reasons and being careless from Him are bad habits, due to which the wrath of Allaah Almighty comes. This punishment is a little example in the life of this world, whereas the torment of the Hereafter will be very severe. While any little disaster of this world cannot be withdrawn then who can withdraw the Doom of the Doomsday? If the mankind will understand it he will tide over the difficulties. Listen! Those who are abstinent, pleasure and gardens of rest are for them with Allaah Almighty. Think for awhile! Will He treat the obedient like the disobedient?
