Humble request (L-3336)

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا 5 فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا 6 وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ ٱسْتِكْبَارًا 7 ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا 8 ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا 9 |

5. Qaala Rabbi ‘innii da-'awtu qawmii lay-lanw-wa nahaaraa. 6. Falam yazid-hum d-u'aaa-'iii illaa firaaraa. 7. Wa ‘innii kullamaa da-'awtuhum li-tagfira lahum ja-'aluuu ‘asaabi-'ahum fiii ‘aazaanihim was-tag-shaw siyaa-bahum wa ‘asarruu was-takba-rus-tikbaaraa. 8. Summa ‘innii da-'awtuhum jihaaraa. 9. Summaa
‘inniii ‘a'-lantu lahum
wa ‘asrartu lahum
‘israa-raa. |

5. He
said: My Lord! Lo! I have called unto my people night and day 6. But
all my calling does but add to their repugnance; 7. And
lo! Whenever I call unto them that You may pardon them they thrust their
fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist
(in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride. 8. And
lo! I have called unto them aloud, 9. And
lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in
private. |
Noah (peace be upon him) invited the people of his folk for a long time but they did neither care and nor obey. When he (peace be upon him) was fed up by explaining before them and did not see its any effect, then he supplicated: My Lord! I called my people to truth night and day that they should listen to me. But as much I invited them, so much they ran from me away and heard nothing. Every time when I invited them so that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears and covered themselves with their garments, so that my voice may not reach their ears. They persisted on their wicked deeds more than earlier, and were arrogant with great arrogance. They considered that there was none greater than them. Even then I invited them publicly, as well as I announced before them and also appealed to them secretly.
