Don’t be like the Jews! (L-3259)

ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ 4  مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا۟ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ ٱلْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًۢا بِئْسَ مَثَلُ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ 5  قُلْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوٓا۟ إِن زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا۟ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ 6

4.  Zaalika  FazlUllaahi Yu'-tiihi  many-yashaaa’.  Wallaahu  Zul-Fazlil- 'aziim. 5.  Masalul-laziina  hummilut-Tawraata  summa  lam  yahmiluunhaa  kamasalil- himaari  yahmilu  ‘asfaaraa.  Bi'-sa  masalul- qawmillaziina  kazzabuu  bi-‘AayaaTillaah.  Wallaahu  laa  yahdil-qawmaz-zaalimiin. 6.  Qul  yaaa-‘ayyuhal-laziina  haaduu ‘in-  za-'amtum  ‘annakum  ‘awliyaaa-'u  Lilaahi  min-  duuninnaasi  fataman-nawul-Mawta  ‘in  kuntum  saadiqiin.

4. That is the bounty of Allah; which He gives unto whom He will. Allah is of Infinite Bounty. 5. The likeness of those who are entrusted with the Law of Moses, yet apply it not, is as the likeness of the ass carrying books. Wretched is the likeness of folk who deny the revelations of Allah. And Allah guides not wrongdoing folk. 6. Say (O Muhammad): O you who are Jews! If you claim that you are favoured of Allah apart from (all) mankind, then long for death if you are truthful.

It is commanded: The Bounty and the Magnificence are of Allaah. He bestows greatness to whom He wills. And Allaah is the Possessor of great Favours. Behold His kindness that He arranged to guide the entire human beings of the world till the last Hour by means of His last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Now if the people did not reap advantage from it, they certainly would be like an ass which carries volumes of books, but do not reap advantage from them. Behold! The same was done by the Jews who were entrusted with the Torah, but they did neither care and nor obeyed its Commandments. Wretched is the example of the people who deny the Signs of Allaah. Notwithstanding so much carelessness, the Jews claim that there is no favourite of Allaah mankind except them. O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! Say to them! Then wish for death, if you are truthful, so that you may reach Him directly. Why do you live?
