Thoughts of misers (L-3312)

أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ 24  وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَٰدِرِينَ 25  فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ 26  بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ 27  قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ 28  قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ 29  فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَٰوَمُونَ 30

24.  ‘Al-laa  yadkhulan-nahal- yawma  'alaykum-miskiin. 25.  Wa  gadaw  'alaa  hardin- qaadiriin. 26.  Falammaa  ra-‘awhaa  qaaluuu  ‘innaa  lazaaalluun. 27.  Bal  nahnu  mahruumuun. 28.  Qaala  ‘awsatuhum  ‘a-lam  ‘aqul-lakum  law-laa  tusabbihuun. 29.  Qaaluu  Subhaana  Rabbinaaa  ‘innaa  kunnaa  zaalimiin. 30.  Fa-‘aqbala  ba'-zuhum  'alaa  ba'-ziny-yatalaawamuun.

24. No needy man shall enter it to-day against you. 25. They went betimes, strong in (this) purpose. 26. But when they saw it, they said: Lo! We are in error! 27. Nay, but we are desolate! 28. The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify you not (Allah)? 29. They said: Glorified be our Lord! Lo! We have been wrong-doers. 30. Then some of them drew near unto others, self-reproaching.

It is commanded: Those three brothers went off, saying one to another in low tones, “We should complete our work as soon as possible that any needy may not come nigh”. They were thinking that they would bring entire fruit after plucking to their house. But when they reached the place of garden, the garden had been ruined. They began to rub their eyes considering that they had forgotten the way of their garden. But when they thought, began to cry: Alas! We have been empty handed. Our garden has been perished and burnt.

Their middling brother was some God-fearing, who said: Did I not say to you that we should exalt Allaah and seek His willingness, otherwise we shall be deprived of? They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers because we did not do whatever we had to do. We erred and did wrong." Then they began to see the faces of one another blaming each other.
